LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - We’re learning more about the robbery at Falcon Bank Monday afternoon.
Currently, 41-year-old Adrian Hernandez is in police custody after he allegedly entered the bank alone, robbed the place, and then fled.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Laredo Police Department Chief of Police Miguel Rodriguez detailed the chain of events that occurred after police say Hernandez entered the Falcon Bank at the 200 block of Bob Bullock Loop.
It started around 2:00 p.m. Monday when the Falcon Bank on the 200 block of Loop 20 turned from a regular everyday scene to chaos.
Rodriguez said they received a silent alarm alert from the bank, prompting officers to be quickly dispatched to the location.
However, the suspect had already fled the scene and the hunt to find him began.
During the press conference, the police chief reported that they originally received a tip for a man fitting the description of the assailant walking down Highway 359. When officers approached the individual, the man took off running and officers began a pursuit to detain him, but once the man was detained, the individual turned out not to be the person they were looking for. Nevertheless, the man was arrested on a previous warrant that had been issued for his arrest.
Officers continued to search for the bank robber until a police captain saw the suspect vehicle parked at a hotel and LPD set up a perimeter around the vicinity.
Eventually, the suspect came out of the room and saw officers outside, but that’s when Laredo Police say the suspect attempted an escape through a locked and gated exit on the back end of the hotel.
Police allege that in the course of activity, Hernandez launched toward the officers, which caused one officer to fire his weapon. Authorities say a chase eventually ensued, but the pursuit ended at the intersection of Sanchez and Convent.
That’s when they were able to locate the money and confirm that Hernandez was the alleged robber.
Additionally, the chief of police says that while the chase was going on, an officer who was responding to the call crashed into an Escalade traveling north on Barlett.
Chief Rodriguez said the individuals in the Escalade and LPD Unit were in good condition.
