LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will temporarily close the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge to all traffic on the morning of September 11 for the 23rd Anniversary Remembrance Ceremony honoring 9/11 victims.
The closure will start at about 6:45 a.m. and is expected to end around 8:00 a.m. Travelers should plan to cross the bridge before 6:45 a.m. If not, the Colombia Solidarity Bridge will open at 7:00 a.m. as an alternative route.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry have arrested a man wanted for homicide by the Collin County Sheriff’s Office.
On Saturday, September 7, officers at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge stopped bus passenger Jose Angel Quinones, 19, for a secondary inspection. They used biometric checks and federal databases to find out he had an active felony warrant for homicide.
Port Director Albert Flores said, “Public safety is a key concern. Identifying the subject and working with Collin County law enforcement led to the arrest of this dangerous individual.”
Quinones is now at Webb County Jail awaiting further legal action.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Laredo police arrested four people on DWI charges following a series of crashes overnight.
At 10:35 p.m. on September 8, a hit-and-run crash was reported near San Jorge and Garden St. Luis Fernando Padilla Orozco, 64, was arrested in connection with the incident.
At 12:35 a.m. on September 9, Felix Espinoza, 40, was arrested after his vehicle crashed into an AEP pole at the 3900 block of Monterrey Ave.
At 1:34 a.m., Angelica Arredondo, 29, was taken into custody following a two-vehicle crash near Lomas Del Sur and Cuatro Vientos Rd. One of the vehicles ended up in a ditch.
Ricardo Alejandro Rodriguez Jr., 26, was arrested at 2:09 a.m. after a two-vehicle collision at the 2300 block of Bob Bullock Loop.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar issued a statement Monday, September 9, following the arrest of former Deputy Sheriff Ignacio Rodriguez IV by the Laredo Police Department.
Rodriguez faces charges of Aggravated Sexual Assault, a first-degree felony, and Indecent Assault, a Class A misdemeanor.
“Although he is a former employee, I remind the public that as a representative of this agency and of the community, our officers are held to a higher standard on or off duty. I do not condone any instances of abuse of authority, nor will I tolerate it,” Sheriff Cuellar stated.
The Laredo Police Department began investigating the claims of sexual assault involving Rodriguez on September 1, 2024. The department is collaborating with the Webb County Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office to ensure a thorough investigation.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - In Encinal, a man was arrested in connection with a human smuggling attempt last Wednesday. Officers attempted to pull over a vehicle for a traffic violation, but the driver continued northbound on I-35, only stopping at Mile Marker 43.
According to the Encinal Police Department, two men fled from the vehicle into a brushy area as officers approached. The driver, Erick Martinez, was apprehended along with five alleged undocumented individuals.
Martinez now faces five counts of human smuggling. The migrants were turned over to U.S. Border Patrol agents at the Cotulla station.
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - At least 13 people receive medical care after a passenger bus they traveled in caught on fire in the state of Nuevo Leon.
According to Mexican authorities the incident happened on Saturday night.
Reports indicated that a passenger bus of the company Turimex was involved in an accident with a semi-truck. on a Mexican highway.
Upon impact the bus caught on fire.
It’s unknown how many people where inside the bus but it was revealed 13 people got medical attention.
Nuevo Laredo first responders were able to assist the state of Nuevo Leon authorities in this incident.
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A 17-year-old is at the Webb County Jail after police served an arrest warrant at a South Laredo high school on Thursday, September 5.
“Police officers served a warrant to Luis Paz, age 17 at LBJ High School who had a pending warrant for human smuggling,” said Jose Espinoza with Laredo Police.
According to Espinoza, the charges are from a crash that was reported on Friday, April 19, an hour north of the city.
The driver, who has not been identified at this time, was allegedly speeding with undocumented individuals in the car during the time of the crash.
“Paz was involved in a rollover accident near the Mines Road area, it was also reported that inside the vehicle there were undocumented individuals that were injured. Due to the severity of the case, he is now facing charges of human smuggling with the likelihood of severe bodily injury or death,” added Espinoza.
While the investigation did not occur on school grounds, a UISD board member felt compelled to speak out about the incident.
”I don’t know the details about what happened to the student, but what I could tell you is it’s unfortunate to hear these kinds of cases or situations happening,” said UISD District 6 Secretary, Michelle Molina.
Molina adds that these types of cases are common in border cities like ours, but they continue to work with other law enforcement agencies to keep students safe.
“We seek other agencies like LPD, the Sheriff’s Office and the entire community as a whole to help keep our children safe, families too. We do well-checks on your children, their safety is our top priority,” continued Molina.
There is no word at this time if anyone else will be facing any charges in this case.

Tensions were high at a South Laredo high school after a student was served an arrest warrant.
On Thursday, September 5, Laredo Police arrested 17-year-old Luis Gerardo Paz at LBJ High School and charged him with human smuggling.
The warrant is from a rollover crash that was reported on Friday, April 19, near 20500 Mines Road.
According to Border Patrol, the driver was allegedly transporting undocumented individuals and was speeding which resulted in a rollover.
Jose Espinoza, with the Laredo Police Department, went into further details regarding the case.
“Paz was involved in a rollover accident near the Mines Road area, it was also reported that inside the vehicle there were undocumented individuals that were injured. Due to the severity of the case, he is now facing charges of human smuggling with the likelihood of severe bodily injury or death,” said Espinoza.
Paz was identified as one of the passengers in the vehicle and was arrested and taken to the county jail on a $20,000 bond.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A Laredo man is behind bars after allegedly pointing a gun at a father in front of his children and fleeing the scene.
Jeremy Ramirez, 24, was arrested Thursday, September 5, in Jackson County on multiple charges from the Laredo Police Department.
Ramirez faces four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and three counts of child endangerment. The charges stem from an incident on August 5 in the 8400 block of Springfield Avenue near a sports facility.
Police say a man reported that while putting three children in his car, another man pointed a handgun at him and then fled.
Ramirez was identified as the suspect, arrested, and brought back to Laredo. He is being held at Webb County Jail with a bond set at $50,000 per charge, signed by Judge Juan Paz.
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Laredo police arrested a 19-year-old man early Friday, September 6, after finding THC pens during a traffic stop.
Officers stopped a white Chrysler 300 at about 12:43 a.m. in the 4800 block of S. Ejido Avenue. According to police, they smelled marijuana while talking to the driver, Santiago Aguilar, and detained him.
After searching the car, officers found 10 THC pens in the glove box, police say. Aguilar was arrested at the scene and charged with possession of a controlled substance between 4 and 400 grams, a second-degree felony.
